In response to discourse on reddit regarding a business parking in the Vine St bike lane (NBC10 reports) and following the submission of Philly Bike Action's recommendations, the City of Philadelphia issued the following statement via email on Sept 16, 2026:
Over the past few weeks, the City has been working with Choi Funeral Home and members of the traffic safety advocacy community to provide an updated Vine Street configuration that is safe for both people using the bike lane and guests of the Choi Funeral Home.
After meeting with both groups and relevant stakeholders, the City will adjust the flex posts in the buffer zone on Vine Street between 13th Street and the Convention Center driveway, moving them closer to the outer edge of the bike lane. The bike lane will not be blocked, and this adjustment will allow funeral processions to stage in one of the local eastbound Vine Street travel lanes, with more width for people to safely exit cars. It was reiterated that only the City is allowed to manipulate flex posts.
The City is grateful to Councilmember Squilla and Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) for convening both parties, and we appreciate everyone remaining respectful when the adjustments go into effect later this week. We look forward to everyone using Vine Street safely, considerately, and responsibly.
