Philly Bike Action!

Our Finances

As a supporter of Philly Bike Action, you deserve to know how our organization is funded and how your donations are moving our mission forward.

Volunteer-Only Organization

Philly Bike Action is an entirely volunteer-run organization. We have no paid staff, and are making meaningful change through the tireless work of local grassroots organizers.

Expenses

A pie chart of expenses for the year 2025. The chart lists average monthly expenses as $1,053 and shows that 52% are spent on projects and campaigns, 23% on meeting space, 11% on tech infrastructure, 10% on supplies, and 5% on pizza at meetings.

  • Philly Bike Action is entirely volunteer run and led, we have no paid staff
  • The two largest line items in the budget are:
    • Projects & Campaigns - bike advocacy projects, bike lane cleanups, and outreach events
    • Space rentals for in-person meetings - council district and citywide meetings allow our organizers to connect and take action on mission-centric projects

Revenue

  • 100% of Philly Bike Action’s funding is unrestricted from individual donors contributing a median donation of $10 a month. PBA does not receive any grant money.
  • Recurring donations are the most helpful so we can plan our budget. Consider supporting our work:

Registered 501(c)(4) Non-Profit

Philly Bike Action is a registered non-profit so that we can receive donations and do not have to pay tax on those donations. Being a (c)(4) allows us more flexibility to engage in political advocacy compared to traditional non-profits. However, this means your donations to Philly Bike Action are not deductible on your personal income tax return.

The IRS requires us to have a Board of Directors to manage our money. Our Board is composed of active volunteer organizers, not large donors!
