Imagine being able to ride around City Hall without fighting 4 lanes of traffic! This dream could be a reality, but we need your help right now!
PennDOT is repaving the streets around City Hall this summer, and the city’s Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (OTIS) will consider bike lane improvements, but it needs an ordinance from 5th District Councilmember Jeffery Young Jr. Logan Square Neighbors Association has supplied a letter to the Councilman’s office, but this rare opportunity is only possible if CM Young introduces legislation by June 12th, before Council breaks for the whole summer.
A bike lane on Penn Square would:
Tell Councilmember Young to introduce this bill by June 12th so we don’t lose this opportunity. Time is running out!
That’s why we need you to sign our petition and send an email to Councilmember Young ASAP. Share it with friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else who cares about bike safety.
This petition is a collaboration between the following organizations:
We, the undersigned Philadelphians, ask Councilperson Jeffery Young Jr. to introduce legislation for a bike lane around City Hall by June 12th.

"Cyclists and pedestrians deserve improved safety around city hall, an incredibly busy part of town. The bike lane on Market St is a great start and a model to follow for Penn Square. This will also make Philadelphia even more welcoming for next year’s celebrations of the World Cup and the 250th anniversary of our founding. Please take action to make the area around city hall even more welcoming and complement the improvements at Dilworth and Love Parks by making the area even more accessible and usable to pedestrians and cyclists. It’s such a huge SEPTA stop too. Great opportunity for a cleaner greener city."
"This would be great, Penn circle is a nightmare to bike around"
"I would be nice to feel safe riding my bike around our beautiful City Hall, and not having to dodge reckless drivers or walk my bike thru the Plaza. I'm sure the drivers will appreciate not having to deal with the cyclists around city hall as well."
"Riding around City Hall always feels treacherous. This would make me feel safer."
"This would be a great additional to the city hall area."
"more bike lanes will make philly a nicer city!"
"I regularly use my bicycle to get around Philadelphia, and yet City Hall is a location I avoid due entirely to car traffic and the lack of protected infrastructure. It is vital that we make City Hall, the center of our city and the source of our public services, more accessible to everyone."
"City Hall should be accessible to all residents."
"My primary mode of transportation in the city is by bicycle. This reduces traffic, noise, dangerous emissions and improved life for everyone. I feel that I’m risking my life, though, around City Hall, as well as other areas with inadequate infrastructure. Please help make this area safer for cyclists and pedestrians."
"I bike to work from West Philadelphia. The Chestnut street shared lane is too dangerous to be useful. I use the lovely new market street bike lane which ends dangerously as I’m fighting for my right to use the road around city hall. Once I get around city hall (only a few more blocks to safety!) I’m still weaving in and out of angry drivers since many vehicles that are not busses or bicycles parking in the shared bus/bike lane. I don’t want to die on my way to work."
"Navigating around City Hall is one of the most fearsome aspects of biking in Philadelphia. Improving bike infrastructure is a must, both for cyclists and pedestrians safety!"
"As a frequent city biker, I see the current integration from Market West’s bike lane to the street around City Hall as helpful but inadequate, leaving bikers with a confusing dead end or a shunt to the inner shoulder. This bike lane proposal would make the existing practice of bikers concrete, lessening confusion for drivers and any unwanted biking through Dilworth Park (as is the park policy) and increasing safety for everyone."
"I bike as my primary mode of transit around the city and a safe and protected route around the city hall area would make my commute so much easier, and I wouldn’t be tempted at all to ride in the no-bike zone of the actual city hall grounds just to avoid getting hit by the cars which speed around the corners."
"Would LOVE a bike lane around City Hall! Let’s encourage biking in the city to alleviate traffic!"
"I moved to center city Philly from FL because I heard it was walkable and bikeable. But the first time I used an Indego bike it was around city hall and I thought I was going to die on those streets! I love the area and have attended many civic events there, but I would love it more if there were bike lanes that made it feel safer with all the traffic. Bike lanes would make things safer for commuters, tourists, children, and everyone."
"Would really make things easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists!"
"Cities are for pedestrians and Philadelphia should be, too! Particularly around parks and city monuments. Make Philadelphia safe for pedestrians."
"Help make City Hall safer for bikes and pedestrians!"
"Safer cycling around City Hall will make it a more pleasant area for everyone!"
"It’s insane that the seat of city government and a major SEPTA hub is encircled by speeding cars. Please make Philadelphia urbane - our city isn’t just an obstacle to getting on the Vine Street expressway"
"As a biker and a constituent of the 5th district I endorse the creation of this bike lane."
"Please make our city safer for cyclists! We ride with our 10 and 4 year old and I want them safe."
"Cyclists deserve a safe route around the literal heart of the city."
"More bikes, fewer cars is good for everything and everybody."
"The current "bike lane" around city hall is extremely dangerous. drivers use it for parking and unloading, and to whip around buses and speed through traffic. It's not just dangerous for cyclists, it's dangerous for pedestrians trying to cross in the crosswalks, and other drivers. Please make city hall a safer, more enjoyable place to be by installing bike lanes."
"I frequently visit Philadelphia using a combination of public transit and biking. More bike infrastructure would make the city easier and safer to navigate for me."
"Please help my son and I get through Center City safely on our bike!"
"As a professor at Temple, and program head for our City Planning and Community Development degrees, I want to strongly encourage you to introduce the appropriate legislation to create a bicycle lane around City Hall. It would add a vital piece to our transportation network by improving safety for riders, pedestrians, and drivers - and help the City achieve its Vision Zero goals. Increasing active transportation options will improve public health for all residents, especially those in your district who will most directly benefit."
"This would be such an incredible quality of life booster for me as a local resident, and encourage a lot of people to help ease traffic congestion by riding instead!"
"A bike line in city hall is critical for the safety of cyclists!"
"A bike lane around City Hall would ensure the safety of bicyclists across the city. It would encourage more families riding their bikes in the most populous and well-traveled areas of the city."
"Please those of us without cars safely get around."
"City Hall is the geographic and political center of our city. Dilworth Park is a great place to take the kids. It should be a welcoming place! Instead it is an isolated island surrounded by a moat of dangerous traffic. This bike lane would be a good step toward reconnecting City Hall to Philadelphia and making Center City safer for everyone."
"The city needs to continue to make the streets safer for everyone"
"i want to be safe riding my bike home from school. my school is two or three blocks away and im in 5th grade"
"PennDOT is repaving the streets around City Hall this summer, and OTIS will consider adding safe bike infrastructure to the inner loop of the traffic circle—but they need supporting legislation from City Council, specifically Councilmember Jeffery Young, Jr. (District 5) The City Hall bike lane would be the keystone of Philly’s bike network—connecting to existing lanes on W Market St, JFK Blvd, 15th St, and a bus–bike lane on E Market, and future lanes on Broad Street and others! City Council must introduce legislation for a bike lane quickly—or else we’ll miss our chance for a safer Penn Square for years to come. City Council recesses for the summer on June 12, so we need Council to write this legislation ASAP."
"Every time I ride to city hall or through center city I have to take my life in my hands fighting four lanes of traffic. Please add a bike lane around city hall!"
"Regular cyclist in Center City."
"Dear Councilperson Young Jr., Bicyclists deserve the same built-in safety measures that you expect when you walk across the street and drive your car. These measures should be designed with input from people who regularly ride around City Hall. Thank you, Stephen Megargee"
"I’m an avid cyclist around Philadelphia and this would be very welcome"
"I have many years of experience cycling to the Wanamaker building, across the street from City Hall. The streets surrounding City Hall are extremely dangerous. We need a protected bike lane now."
"A bike lane on Penn Square Dear Councilmember Young, Please introduce this bill by June 12th so we don’t lose this opportunity. It will provide a dedicated space for cycling around City Hall, improving safety for cyclists across the whole city. It will reduce crossing distances for people walking and in wheelchairs. It will serve as both a practical and a symbolic representation of bike safety in Philadelphia"
"I bike around City Hall every day to get to and from work. Having a bike lane will make the commute much more enjoyable and safer for me and all my fellow cyclists."
"If you want Philly to be a city that is welcoming to not only its citizens but also visitors this would be a great idea to do for the community of bike riders. It shows that Philadelphia is not only a great place to be but also a safe place to traverse and enjoy the fruits of city of Brotherly Love."
"Bicycle infrastructure costs little to maintain and delivers robust ongoing economic benefits—perhaps most importantly to those striving to realize their own potential, unburdened by a personal car’s depreciating value. A bike lane around City Hall is a critically important safety improvement, but also a symbol of who Philadelphia is for: are we a playground for the already well off? Or a springboard for the aspirational—giving students, parents, entrepreneurs, and everyday workers a fast, affordable path to opportunity?"
"This bike lane is an almost unbelievable dream. Please be a visionary and make this happen!"
"Please do not value cars over human life. Please think of more than your wallet friends and yourself. Think of a future where you can move in the city by bike safely and walk with plenty of space without getting hit by/ injured and murdered by people in cars. Think of peaceful public squares without cars. Jut like you don’t encircle the white house with a highway, you should not do that with city hall. Output in a connected bike lane, in fact dot let cars near city hall, just let people and and bikes and promote public transit. Please think of a person as more valuable than a car."
"Build the bike lane!"
"I ride in the city often and any biking infrastructure would be greatly appreciated. It is definitely not safe riding without some sort of separated lanes."
"I’m a full-time student who bikes across the city to Thomas Jefferson University every day. I choose to bike to reduce pollution, traffic, and parking congestion in Center City. The vast majority of my classmates have said they “wish [they] could bike”, but they can’t because it is too dangerous, too scary, or too impractical due to the lack of safe, continuous bike infrastructure. Cycling makes a better, safer Philadelphia for everyone—drivers and pedestrians included."
"Adding protected, high-quality bike lanes would be a HUGE improvement in this area for everyone traveling by any mode of transportation!"
"We have a beautiful city to bike through. Protected bike lanes are required for people to truly feel safe in the streets."
"A much needed bike lane. More safety for cyclists is desperately needed across the city"
"Please connect market east and market west."
"Please introduce the bill for bike lane improvements around city hall! We deserve safer streets"
"The city needs this lane added."
"An excellent opportunity to promote alternate modes of transport to relieve congestion in the long run."
"Please build this bike lane! I have to bike south through this area on 15th on my way home from work everyday, and the portion after the bike lane ends near city hall is the scariest! I don’t want to get in the way of all the cars and busses going through this intersection, so a bike lane would help keep me from having to cut across several lanes of traffic to get south of the hall."
"Build this bike lane! We have too many gaps in our bike lane network and too many lanes of noisy, polluting traffic going around city hall."
"Philadelphia deserves safe streets for all."
"I often bike around City Hall and it is definitely dangerous! I would love a dedicated bike lane there."

"Please approve the bike lane."

"Ensure the safety of bicyclists traveling through Center City by helping create more protected lanes around City Hall!"
"I am excited by the prospect of safe bike lanes since I regularly ride city bikes and don't go near city hall because it feels dangerous. This would open up a new part of the city for me to get to boat house row easily and to work meetings."
"Thank you for supporting many transportation options for Philadelphians!"
"There are so many reasons to do this - but keeping our community members safe easily supercedes all others, including the reason we have laws in the first place. Biking around city hall is terrifying; it's a gamble with safety *every time*. We could change that."
"Stop fucking around, other cities are eating our lunch when it comes to growth, we need bike lanes, public transit, and Fortune 500 companies. Get it done"
"Making it safe to bike nd walk anywhere in the city is the right move but especially in extremely busy areas like the City Hall and Suburban Station area."

"I would like to feel safer while cycling in Philly when I come down to visit from NYC and I’m using the local bike share to get around town to do touristy things that frequently bring me around City Hall to get back to various transit hubs"
"I commute through city hall every day on my bike. It’s a central part of the city. It should be accessible and safe for ALL commuters, regardless of type!"
"Yes and replace 80% of all roads in the city with bike lanes instead. Get cars out of this beautiful walkable, bikeable, public-transit-able city. One dead pedestrian/cyclist is too many. Cars are unsafe and provide no benefit that cannot be provided by a well-maintained public transit system and copious bike lanes and sidewalks."
"Please do this!"
"Those roads are horrible! I don’t want to be crossing four lanes of traffic to access city hall. And even as a driver I dread having to go that way. People have no idea what lanes to be in. It all needs to be improved for safety"
"Please support bike lanes for safety."
"Please help make cycling safer in our beautiful city."
"I live in West Philadelphia and work at 6th and market. I’d love to use the chestnut and market street bike lanes to commute to work, but there is no safe way around city hall right now. Please help change that!"
"By adding this bike infrastructure, not only will safety be dramatically improved in this extremely difficult-to-navigate area, but we'll also make a key civic space in the city more accessible. Please take all necessary actions to prioritize the human-centric design of the city!"
"I work for the city and I bike to work most days from South Philly! This improvement will make my commute safer and my life easier!!!! Please introduce this bill!!"
"The city needs more safety for bikers which means more designated bike lanes."
"Honestly, the entire one-block radius around City Hall should be closed to car traffic. In the meantime, a bike lane is literally the least we can do—so let’s do it."
"The bike lane around City Hall is a very good idea. It should include street lane markings to switch lanes to exit and lanes from Market Street and 15th Street for bikes to slide into the bike lane around City Hall."
"Councilmember Young, please sponsor legislation for a bike lane around City Hall. It is beyond time that our great city has a great hike lane around our magnificent city hall. This provides a safer, more viable way for bike riders to get around this section of the city, with the added benefit of making it safer for pedestrians and people in wheelchairs to cross the street as well. Thank you for sponsoring this legislation and making the city safer and better for multi-modal transportation."
"Please make it safe for people to ride bikes in Philly. These protected lanes are essential for maintaining safe streets and managing traffic."
"Let's make Philly safer for bike riders."
"As a cyclist, I have found it very difficult to navigate safely around City Hall. The bike lane needs to be reconfigured, and the traffic lights need a specific signal for bikes, like the ones at Parkside and Belmont and at 30th and Chestnut."
"Let's do it! Build the lane around City Hall!"
"Navigating around Center City on a bike, especially around City Hall, can be nightmarish. Even in a car, that loop induces a lot of stress. Adding a bike lane is a simple way to ease road congestion and keep Philadelphians safer."
"Almost got hit by a car in front of City Hall last week immediately after my first day of orientation as a new PennMed nurse (coming from 1500 Market St) because of the insane traffic pattern in front of the center of our city & how lethal it is for bicyclists. Please fix to save our lives!"
"Navigating the City Hall area is a major challenge for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers. Dedicated, protected bike lines are incredibly important to keep the city's numerous cyclists safe. Please add protected barriers and crossing points for cyclists that use this space."
"I get around Philadelphia mainly by walking and/or bicycling. Having been unemployed for the better part of the last forty-three (43) years (not a choice I have made) SEPTA is a luxury for me. Being on the streets, either as a pedestrian, bicyclist, or motorist is dangerous these days. People run stop signs, blow through red lights, do not use turn signals, and commit other offenses while driving. This has become more prevalent since the enactment of that law a few years ago whereby the Philadelphia Police are no longer allowed or required to stop motorists for broken headlights, taillights, and six other reasons. Anything that makes walking and/or cycling safer is welcomed by yours truly!"
"Make our city safer!"
"I love biking and I love Philadelphia. Please make it safer in my city"
"This is part of my daily commute and is a death-trap of traffic and impatient drivers. This is a major artery for cyclists in Philadelphia."
"We need safe infrastructure for biking around the city!"
"My fiancée and I are avid cyclists, and dedicated bike lanes keep us and our fellow cyclists safe!"
"Mr Young: there's no better way to demonstrate your commitment to safety than by ensuring cyclists are protected in the heart of our great City 💛"
"bikers need to get around city hall just as drivers do, safely. This is massively important."
"As the central landmark of Philadelphia, City Hall represents a cultural, civic, and historical destination for residents and visitors alike. In its current state, the built environment makes navigating the surrounding area hostile for anyone outside of a motor vehicle. Introducing bike lanes and other traffic calming features to the loop around City Hall would make the building itself, as well as the surrounding parks and businesses, more welcoming for all while ensuring everyone can get home safe, no matter how they get there."
"Build the city hall bike lane."
"A bike lane around City Hall will not just improve safety for bicyclists in the area but also for drivers and pedestrians. The roads around City Hall are notably dangerous with rampant speeding and including bike lane improvements would make for safer and slower streets for all."
"This will be a huge improvement for bike safety!"
"Let’s get it done! Penn dot is going to pay for it— why would you say no? Let bikers get around city hall without having to play leapfrog!"
"I currently avoid biking around city hall, but if there was high quality bike infrastructure it would become a useful part of my daily commute!"
"I want to ride through center city feeling safe and welcomed! More people on bikes, means less cars and less traffic! Counter intuitive but true!"
"Would love to safely take people to city hall on our guided bike tours!"
"😍"
"Please! We love Dilworth plaza and we would love to be able to more safely cross the street to the plaza and city hall with our 2 toddlers!"
"I have to navigate this awful traffic pattern several times per week for work. A bike lane would make it so much more safe and calm for everyone!"
"I recently served on a jury for over 2 weeks and having a bike lane would have been huge for my commute to city hall. As it currently is, it's way to dangerous. This is long overdue!"
"There is NO practical reason why this most valuable bike lane should NOT be included in the repaving around City Hall. Thank you so very much for doing what is right in passing this action through council. Be well Brandi Ebright"
"City Hall is so dangerous to be near with cars driving recklessly because they're annoyed from the traffic. It's very dangerous if you're biking and have nowhere to go to avoid them."

"Bike lanes save lives."
"Having been hit multiple times as a bike rider, I'm I feel this is smart and necessary"

"Yet another no-brainer. Please move on this."
"This is long overdue"
"The Market Street bike Lane basically stops at City hall, leaving riders in an extremely dangerous position. Let's connect the East and West sides of our city. Thank you CM Young!"
"Safe bike lanes in Philly are important! Make it happen!!"
"This passage is so dangerous, particularly coming down off the Ben Franklin Parkway which is normally such a beautiful bike. You'll be able to get a lot more people biking through the area too which will be great for business."
"This is obvious to anyone using a bicycle around city hall. Please do the right thing and make a safe bike lane."
"This bike lane is critical to keeping all cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists safe around City Hall."
"Anything to make biking in philly safer is a blessing"
"I support!!"
"I work downtown and bike around city hall frequently."
"More bike lines have a traffic calming effect making it safer for everyone in a particularly congested area. It would also encourage more people to ride bikes instead of driving, cutting down on the congestion."
"My wife vends at City Hall during Christmas season. I drop my ballot off there. We got our marriage license there. I served on jury duty there. Safer access to and around City Hall is essential to making this city a success."
"With SEPTA funding in threat, an increase in vehicles on the road and an associated decrease in both biker and pedestrian safety, we need safe and designated bike lanes for commuters and visitors interested in exploring the city."
"Everyone deserves to be able to get home and to work safely. Riding around City Hall is insanely dangerous right now. A protected lane would make it safer to ride in the area. It would also slow down cars, and create shorter crossings for pedestrians. It is a win-win-win. One obstructionist councilmember shouldn't be able to hold up these much needed improvements."
"We need more safe bike lanes in Philadelphia if we want to protect people and be a clean, green city as Mayor Parker claims."
"I bike to and from work from Fishtown but going back home I usually take Market until 13th. The problem is the bike lane stops so instead I cut through City Hall. Which is not ideal - I dont like being on a collision course with pedestrians, even though I go extremely slow. Please complete the bike network so we can all stay safe."
"Making Philadelphia a cycling-safe city is possibly the best investment we can make in the safety of our citizens; the well-being of our community; the accessibility of all of Philadelphia to all Philadelphians; our climate; and our ability to attract tourists. It’s a win-win-win-win-win!"
"As someone who often bikes on Market, the area around city hall feels like a death trap. A bike lane will make the Market more accessible for cyclists like myself, who commute past city hall nearly every day."
"The safer we make it for cyclists, the more we encourage cycling, which will make our roads safer, less congested and less polluted."
"The heart of the city should be as accessible to as many people as possible! We should optimize our streets for bikes and pedestrians first, cars second."
"I bike a lot and it’s always a mess navigating around city hall, please add a bike lane!"
"This is a critical infrastructure improvement that will improve safety for all road users without a notable negative impact on traffic."
"YES"
"This would make this area so much safer and welcoming for our communities."
"I bike past City Hall every day with my toddler who attends daycare nearby, and it’s really scary. I get honked at, I have to cross multiple lanes of traffic, and I’m always worried. There’s a nice bike lane up 15th, but then I can’t continue along 15th at all. Please make it safe!"
"More Protected bike lanes!"
"I lived in Philadelphia from 1960 to 2025. Love my City!"
"I want to live in a city that prioritizes bikes and pedestrians!"
"Dear Councilperson Young, Beyond useful noise pollution reduction (desirable in its own right) and air pollution around Dillworth Park, a bike lane around City Hall would deliver obvious proof to visitors in 2026 and beyond of Philadelphia's dedication and concern for the safety of Philadelphia's cyclists, pedestrians (especially the very young, old, and disabled) attempting to cross those four lanes onto that island. Please do not let this opportunity go to waste."
"We need more bike lanes for a safe and sustainable city!"
"Thank you for valuing safety. Keeping bikers safe also protects cars because they can more accurately predict where the bikes will be. It also keeps more cars off the road, reducing traffic for everyone. Thank you!"
"I am signing on behalf of myself as a citizen of Philadelphia."
"It is time to provide cyclists with a safe way to navigate the city hall area."
"Bicycling around city hall is third- world esque. The market Street and parkway bike Lanes unceremoniously dump you around Penn square where you have to dart from the left to the right. On the south side the lane disappears all together forcing you to ride in traffic or ride along the skirt. It's pathetic"
"Please push for real, effective bike and pedestrian bike infrastructure around City Hall! I actively avoid biking around there even if it's the most direct route because navigating vehicular traffic is very stressful. It's such a central area with so many commuters of all modes that making improvements to traffic flow of ALL users would lead to a safer, more comfortable environment we as a city can be even more proud to show off."
"Prioritize bike and pedestrian infrastructure! Make City Hall safer for everyone! Build more protected bike lanes!"
"City Hall should be much more bike friendly and pedestrian friendly. This would be a great way to improve the value of one of our greatest civic assets!"
"Please protect bicyclists!!"
"I am one of your constituents also!"
"More bike lanes everywhere! Philly should be a great cycling city. Flat and dense. We just need the infrastructure."
"Please bring this bike lane! It would revolutionize my commute and biking to the west side of Center City from the east."
"Been biking in Philly for 8 years. Been hit by cars 3 times. I don't want to be forced to rely on continued good luck to live; I want infrastructure"
"We need more and better bike lanes everywhere."
"Pleas help protect bikers across the city! I beg the city to stop prioritizing motor vehicles over the safety and health of bikers and walkers"
"We need this!"
"Please help Philly continue on the wonderful strides we've made in being more bike and pedestrian friendly. Thank you!"
"Councilman Young, I am one of your constituents in the 5th district. I use a bike as my main form of transportation. I strongly support this bike lane around City Hall and I hope you will support it, as well as other bike, pedestrian and traffic safety projects in our district."
"Dear Council Member Young: For more than 20 years, I have led bike rides through Center City Philadelphia, for both residents and visitors. The City Hall traffic circle is for bike riders what a series of rapids are for canoe paddlers. Often, we'd just dismount and have to walk around this vortex of cars, even though there was plenty of space in the wide streets. Many visitors asked me if there was going to be any protection for cyclists and I would always say, "They are working on it..." because I am a lifelong Philadelphian and an optimist about these things. PLEASE INTRODUCE this bill, which will help bring more safety, more beauty, more fun to our city – at very little cost. City Hall is an architectural wonder, and this bike lane will help us all get closer to it. As happens elsewhere in the city, introducing a bike lane will create a buffer and help calm traffic and bring Center Square a little closer to being cleaner and greener. Thank you. – Michael McGettigan"
"KEEP BIKE LANES SAFE MORON"
"We need more safe bike lanes!"
"It’s not safe the way things are currently. We need that to change."
"This is a crucial node connecting multiple bike routes, and a dangerous place for cyclists and pedestrians alike. These improvements would benefit all Philadelphians."
"City Hall needs good pedestrian and bike street designs! Thank you!"
"Desperately needed bike infrastructure to continue to separate vehicles from bikers, encouraging more cycling and less drivers!"
"I was just at City Hall yesterday to provide public testimony at City Council. I would love to be safe biking to/from there!"
"Please help improve safety for all cyclists around our beautiful City Hall. Doing so will also help reduce crossing distances for pedestrians and those with disabilities that may be in a wheelchair, walking with canes, etc. As someone that rides my bicycle around the City, it's so critical to help protect cyclists from injuries and even death. Thank you very much!"
"Signing to represent our family of bikers: Brad Baer (41) Katie Baer (42) Jack Baer (10) Jude Baer (6) As neighbors of Dr. Barbara Friedes, we're strong advocates for better biking infrastructure in Philadelphia for everyone's safety."
"Everyone should be able to safely navigate the literal center of Philadelphia."
"CM Young, without better bike lanes around City Hall, it is only a matter of time before a bicyclist is severely injured or killed. Not having bike lanes that are contiguous and carefully laid out is not going to stop cyclists from using the streets around City Hall. I will remind you that according to the PA State drivers test, cyclists have the same rights to the roads as other vehicles. Please make it safe for them...and me."
"CM Young, Offering a safer alternative not only reduces the amount of accidents, but also removes cars from the road. If Philadelphia is going to successfully move into the future, common sense steps like this should be taken. Thank you"
"Hi! I often need to bike around City Hall with my two kids (ages 6 and 1) on my bike, and it's terrifying. Adding a bike lane would make it much safer for us and for everyone in the city."
"One of the most major pedestrian cities in the U.S. and yet so far behind when it comes to bike infrastructure, protection and safety. Having a bike lane around City Hall not only protects cyclists, but prevents vehicles from ILLEGALLY parking around the building obstructing tourism."
"If they can deny putting in a bike lanr in such a high traffic area then maybe we should require those who deny the bike lane to then ride a bike around city hall unprotected and see how it feels for the residents of philadelphia. As somebody who has been run off the road dozens of times in this section of this city alone. In addition to the city hall employees who continue to park in the bike lane in the area. The safety of the residents needs to be taken into account a little more than it does at this time. And not just when it's somebody important not just when it's a doctor not just when it's someone on the council. Every single life. Now."
"Active cyclist, on 3rd bike, riding 8 years, live in Greater Center City, use bike and public transit for EVERYTHING, and I am 69 yrs old. Thank you Ms. Blackwell"
"I ride around Penn square often and find it very dangerous with no real alternatives to get past city hall. Please help provide safe biking in such a critical location!"
"This would make it safer for my wife to get to and from work and safer for us to bike our child to and from school."
"I bike with my kids near City Hall all the time. Please do this for their sake."
"Please don't miss this opportunity to make our streets safer for all users!"
"As a pedestrian who routinely walks in the vicinity of City Hall, I strongly support the installation of bike lanes. Bike lanes improve safety for everyone using the street—not only cyclists, but drivers and pedestrians too."
"We need a bike lane!"
"I am your constituent and a bike commuter, as well as a pediatrician and a parent. Please help keep me, all kids, your constituents, and all Philadelphians safe!"
"Common sense safety improvements for biking and walking like this bike infrastructure protect Philadelphians, and it makes the city significantly more attractive for the next generation of young professionals that are crucial to the economic growth this city needs to thrive and grow."
"I ride the market street bike lanes every day home from work and it's abrupt end and need to traverse four lanes of traffic is a poor design and extremely dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Continuing a bike lane south on 15th for as long as possible would be the safest design as it is already noted as a bikeway and is a major thorough for bike traffic heading south."

"The roads that circle City Hall are hostile to pedestrians and bicycles alike. Despite the high volume of people not in cars, vehicular circulation is the main priority. It's difficult to cross the street at the actual designated crossings and other locations where there should be a crossing, there is not. The core of Philadelphia should not have what is essentially a highway running through it. A bike lane around City Hall would be a step in the right direction toward traffic calming, pedestrian and cyclist prioritization, and overall safety and quality of life improvements."
"A bike lane at city hall would make the roads safer for everyone"

"This is needed. It’s sad the only bike lane is on the west side of city hall and bicyclists have to either risk their safety on the other sides or get onto the sidewalk - and the problems that comes with - to avoid drivers speeding around City Hall. This needs to change. We are an internationally-reknown city loved for its walkability. Let's stop being car-centric and start being people-centric. A bike loop around City Hall - a signature spot for tourists and citizens alike - is a positive step in that direction."

"I ride around city hall everyday to get to work and to get home. Its often very challenging to merge into the lane with drivers who do not respect cyclists presence. City Hall disconnects cyclists from our most important civic center, public space, and other bicycle infrastructure. Please consider adding bike lanes to improve safety for cycling commuters and improving safety around city hall. This will show visitors a world class philly."

"I used to bike every day to work from West Philly to 8th & Market. I would bike mostly down Market St, and getting around City Hall was particularly dicey. I never found a great way to do it. There's a little shoulder you can ride in, but then it disappears. You're forced into the car lanes, which does not feel safe. It also does not make drivers too happy if they have to slow down for you. A bike lane around City Hall would help a lot!"

"It's long overdue that the city of Philadelphia have more and safer bike lanes. Trying to ride a bike anywhere near City Hall currently feels like playing a real-life version of the old arcade game Frogger. Nobody should have to go to the hospital or worse because they were partaking in the civic process. Please, let's get this bike lane done."

As the centerpiece of our city, City Hall deserves to shine as part of that network!"
"The current options for bikers in this area are extremely unsafe. Please make some space for us."

"Please help keep us cyclists safe!"

"I and many other cyclists navigate around city hall on daily basis to get to work. The quantity of cars and traffic lanes makes this a harrowing journey on many days. As a key intersection between multiple neighborhoods in Philadelphia (including multiple protected bike lanes) and the heart of Center City, this critical intersection deserves a dedicated and fully-connected bikelane to complete the circuit and protect cyclists' lives on the city's doorstep."

"The area around City Hall is a huge barrier to connecting bike lanes. Just today I was riding trying to get from 13th Street to Market to the Parkway, and without safe infrastructure around City Hall it makes it so hard to connect the biking infrastructure we have. City Hall is beautiful, and shouldn't feel like you have to navigate a deadly 4-lane road just to access it or just to bike through it! Thank you!"
"Please build this bike line! The whole area needs to be more pedestrian and bike friendly. The traffic there is loud and atrocious. Our city hall is mesmerizing but surrounded by a moat of honking SUVs."
"I think this would improve the Market st bike lane. Market St in old city just got Philly’s first curb-protected bike and I believe they plan to extend it further to city hall. This proposal around city hall would help connect either side of market"

"The city could use more bike lanes. It would also help make the streets around city hall less of a racetrack."

"This is a citizen safety issue."
"I would love this as a driver and as a cyclist. That whole area is so chaotic with how the lanes influence car behavior, and needs to be addressed. Adding bike lanes would be an opportunity to make that snarled up area make more sense . Traffic might still be slow right there but it would be safer."
"The loop around city hall is awful for everyone, cars, tourists, bikes, peds, overall a terrible environment. Getting some much needed bike lanes here would be a first step and help a lot, it would also help connected west market with east market that needs all the help it can get."
"This would make the roads safer for cyclists and hopefully better for drivers too! If people felt safer biking that might take cars off the road meaning less traffic for those that need to or prefer to drive! Let’s do this! It would be so much cheaper and more efficient to do this when they repave!"

"I bike east of City Hall every week on the way to work, and my number one area of concern is where the bike lane abruptly ends on the SW corner of Dilworth. Jumping the curb is dangerous for pedestrians and those exiting the southern City Hall entrance, and the alternative is unprotected walls of traffic around the centerpiece of our city. Spare some asphalt to make a safe, protected bike lane for residents and tourists alike!"
"We have a bike lane around almost half of city hall. Let’s finish the job and make it safe for folks like me who bike to and from center city!"

"This only makes sense. It should be a no brainer and it will make the area more vibrant."
"City Hall and Central Square are at the crossroads of our city, and making the space accessible to bikes would show Philadelphia cares both symbolically and practically about being clean and green. Pave the way for Vision Zero, starting with city hall!"

"The area around City Hall is supposed to be the jewel of Philadelphia's public spaces and enable civic engagement for all. Instead, in its current form, it serves as a literal and metaphorical barrier keeping anyone not in a motor vehicle away from public life and our city government. Installing a complete, safe bike lane would improve connections between the area's bike infrastructure and help calm traffic to make this area safer for both cyclists and pedestrians!"
"I ride through this street nearly every day and when I leave the safety of the bike lane it’s a complete free for all. It’s an untenable situation to force cyclists to either make a detour onto 15th St, or risk life and limb across the many lanes of Penn Square"
