Big win for Vision Zero Funding in Mayor Parker’s FY2026 Proposed Budget

Philly Bike Action March 13, 2025

PHILADELPHIA – Off the back of our successful petition and unmissable bike-powered billboard at City Hall during the Vision Zero City Council Hearing, Philly Bike Action is happy to report that Mayor Parker has announced a proposed budget that aligns with our advocacy goal of $5 million for the Vision Zero, which would represent a major increase in the City's direct contribution to life-saving infrastructure projects - plus the promise of additional money to fully-fund concrete protection for the bike lanes on Spruce and Pine St!

Vision Zero Capital funding pays for projects that are proven to reduce traffic fatalities and severe injuries on our streets, like protected bike lanes and pedestrian improvements.

Without line item breakdowns, we don't yet know if the full $5 million has been committed to the Vision Zero Capital Line, where dollars make the greatest difference. But we know this today: in response to our advocacy, the Mayor has substantially increased City funding for Vision Zero. Over the coming days, we'll analyze the detailed appropriations, and, if necessary, we'll hold the mayor accountable to living up to the commitments she made today.

And let's be clear: $5 million is not enough to end traffic deaths in Philadelphia; it represents the correction of a budgetary trajectory that was off course. However, it's a huge increase in funding that will help pay for life-saving street treatments, and it’s a concrete indicator that the Parker Administration is prioritizing safer streets.

We're looking forward to continued support for Vision Zero from members of Council during the budget process and thank Mayor Parker for starting the conversation off strong.
